Espresso Machine Troubleshooting
Stop button light flashing
Possible cause: Water turned off at the mains
Ensure that the water supply is connected and switched on.
Possible cause: Too much water drawn off from the hot water tap
Turn the machine off and then leave for ten seconds and turn back on again.
Ensure that the boiler fills correctly by checking the water level gauge which is generally located on the front of the machine.
If the stop light continues to flash then repeat the procedure.
When the boiler fill light goes out and the boiler refills wait for the espresso machine to reach its required temperature.
Unable to froth milk
Possible cause: Steam pressure is low
Check that the boiler pressure level is at 1.0 bar and that the machine is turned on.
Possible cause: Steam nozzle is blocked
Remove and clean thoroughly.
Possible cause: Poor milk quality
Try again with a different portion of milk taken from a separate batch.
Possible cause: Attempting to re-froth boiled milk
Dispose of the contents of your jug, wash, dry and then try again with a fresh quantity of milk.
Cold coffee
Possible cause: Machine not up to operating temperature
Ensure that the machine is switched on and wait for fifteen minutes, or until the espresso machine reaches its optimum temperature.
This can be checked via the corresponding gauge, which is traditionally located
Possible cause: Filter baskets not hot
Lock the filter basket into the group handle and flush hot water through them.
Always leave the filter holders locked into the group handles during the working day, only remove them for cleaning procedures.
Possible cause: Cold cups
Ensure that pre-heated cups are always used.
Coffee dispenses too slowly
Possible cause: Blocked grouphead
Perform a daily cleaning routine to remove any blockages in the grouphead and surrounding pipework.
Possible cause: Too much coffee in the filter basket
Check that the right filter basket is in use.
Possible cause: Check operating pump pressure is at 9 bar
Run water through the grouphead and check that the pressure gauge located on the espresso machine reads at least 9 bar.
Possible cause: Grind set too fine
Change your grinder settings.
Possible cause: Coffee in filter holder is over compressed
Discard the ground coffee from the group handle, replenish from the grinder and tamp with the correct, lighter, pressure.
Coffee dispenses too quickly
Possible cause: Not enough coffee in the filter holder
Check that the right filter basket is in use.
Possible cause: Grind set too coarse
Change your grinder settings.
Possible cause: Coffee in the filter is not tamped enough
Discard the coffee in the group handle, replenish from the grinder and then tamp at the correct pressure.
Group handle is difficult to load and lock into the grouphead
Possible cause: Too much coffee in the filter basket
Check that the correct filter basket is being used.
Possible cause: Gasket damage

Coffee is leaking from the grouphead or filter basket
Possible cause: Coffee build up
Perform a daily cleaning cycle to remove any built-up coffee.
Possible cause: Filter basket damage

Leaking from the front of the machine under the drip tray/grill
Possible cause: Waste pipe/box blocked
Take off the drip tray and clean out the waste box and the waste pipe, removing any coffee deposits and residue with a damp cloth. Run hot water into the box until the flow is clear.
Possible cause: Boiler overflow

Leaking from the back of the machine
Possible cause: Boiler overflow

Incorrect coffee level in cup
Possible cause: Incorrect dose set on the touch screen

Possible cause: Incorrect button on touch pad selected
Check touch pad diagrams and icons to ensure the correct button is selected in the future.
