History
Long before the invention of the modern espresso machine, it would take in excess of five minutes to brew espresso. That wouldn't exactly be ideal during busy periods in this day-and-age.
After years of development, the most recognisable and pioneering design was crafted by the father of the modern espresso.
Angelo was granted a patent for his 'espresso coffee machine' in 1884. But his machine did not provide 'single serve' coffee, instead creating bulk brewed espresso. Because of this, his techniques were refined and developed further during the intervening years.
It was not until the 1906 Milan Fair, where two entrepreneurs Luigi Bezzerra and Desiderio Pavoni, wowed crowds with their single-shot espresso as a way to quickly brew coffee directly into a cup.
Essentially the Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs of espresso, the pair developed and improved upon Moriondo's machine in several ways. Including introducing many of the common traits found in the modern espresso machine: the portafilter, multiple brewheads are all still seen on machines today.
The introduction of the 'Caffe Espresso' machine would change the industry forever.
For years the formula for making coffee remained relatively the same. But the widening availability of electricity established a new power source for these developing contraptions.
Technology has always changed the way in which everyday and specialist tasks have been achieved. And making coffee is no different. Pull-lever operation has been replaced by simple push-button operation. Touchscreen operation is now making inroads into our espresso machines.
This technology, unlike many other aspects of other industries, allows for users to work in symbiosis with these well-crafted pieces of equipment. This provides feedback in almost all areas of the brewing process.
Making baristas lives easier, it allows them to focus upon all of the intricacies that go into the perfect espresso.
When you buy with Caffe Society, you can be sure that we offer only the best espresso machines and best commercial espresso machines that are available on the market today.
Expresso, Espresso or Epresso Coffee?
Possibly one of the most delicious creations on earth, Espresso is the Italian method of forcing a small amount of nearly boiling water through finely ground coffee beans, at high pressure.
It originated in Milan, Italy in the 1900’s, and is the thicker, stronger flavoured coffee that has crema on top (the thin layer of creamy foam). It features a more concentrated flavour and aroma due to the way that it is brewed.
A common mis-spelling of Espresso is Expresso or Epresso - it happens so much we wrote a blog post about it!
