What is Nitrobrew coffee?
What is Nitrobrew coffee? Why is it such a buzz word in coffee at the moment? Why are large chain coffee shops like Starbucks making such a big deal over it all of a sudden?
Let’s start by giving a really simple answer: Nitrobrew coffee is basically cold brew coffee but with a minor twist.
Using the power of the traditional beer pump system, Nitrobrew uses nitrogen gas and a pump system to serving cold brew coffee very much like a pint of beer straight from the tap.
Nitrogen: Lighter than air for a smoother taste
What you end up with is a lusciously smooth cold brew coffee that has a head like a beer, but stays smoother for longer and gives a luxurious feel in the mouth as nitrogen bubbles remain tight because they are much smaller than CO2 bubbles.
The best thing about Nitrobrew is that you are able to serve a wide range of cold drinks via the system — so why coffee?
Well, nitrogen has no flavour or odour but helps create an velvety smooth, foamy liquid that creates a luxury coffee experience that is difficult to match with a standard cold brew.
It also allows you to make cold latte-like drinks without needing milk. So you get that same milk foam effect without adding dairy to your drinks, this makes Nitrobrew coffee a perfect alternative for those that are lactose intolerant or even if you want a luxury drink without the added calories.
Depending on the coffee roast, CO2 might be better suited, but for most, it’s fine without. The creamy head on the top of the drink makes a cold brew coffee that resembles a classic Guinness, but is much easier to distinguish when tasted!
