UK Coffee Week 2019
It’s that time again for 2019, Coffee Week!
Coffee Week is a nationwide UK celebration of all things Coffee and Coffee Shops. It’s part of an initiative to raise charitable funds through the sales of the delicious coffee served each and every day at coffee shops around the country.
The funding raised goes towards bringing clean water, education and sanitation to coffee-growing communities; part of Project Waterfall.
Since 2011, Project Waterfall has raised over £1 million and bought clean drinking water to over 37,000 people across 7 countries.
For 2019, fundraising is going towards helping the rural Jabi Tehnan district of Ethiopia. 38% of the people living in Jabi Tehnan rely on coffee for their livelihood.
Ethiopia is considered the spiritual home of coffee, however there are many thousands of people who don’t have easy and ready access to clean, drinkable water.
It’s also one of the countries that struggles most with the water crisis. 75% of the population lack access to clean water and 95% lack access to sanitation.
On the week commencing 29th April 2019, the thousands of coffee shops taking part will donating a portion of the sales of each and every coffee they sell, adding up to one big fundraising effort for a great cause.
It could be something as simple as donating 5p of every coffee sold, creating a cake and coffee offer where a portion of the sale is donated, or you could create some special events for this week to get people excited for a good cause.
To get started as a coffee shop, it’s only £25 per coffee shop to register, which covers printed materials to use in your shop to promote the cause.
And a great part of Coffee Week is that 100% of the funds raised during the event go directly to the Project Waterfall project.
