UK Coffee Week 2018
UK Coffee Week soon comes round every single year (well, since 2011 it has) with the aim of helping raise awareness of coffee-growing communities around the globe.
The event does this by encouraging coffee shops to donate a portion of coffee sales to Project Waterfall – which has helped deliver clean drinking water to over 27,000 people in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Vietnam and Nicaragua.
In an ideal world, we would all live with clean water, but sadly that isn’t the case in many parts of the globe.
Even in the spiritual home of coffee, Ethiopia, there are thousands of people that don’t have ready access to clean, drinkable water.
75% of the population don’t have access to clean water and 95% lack access to sanitation – which is shocking considering how much the Western world relies on the nation for a caffeine injection.
With over 500 billion cups of coffee consumed around the globe every single year – and continuing to grow – our global growing regions are becoming increasingly more scarce.
If we don’t help support the communities and people behind one of our most popular hot drinks, and the basis for many of our businesses, then we may see more farmers and communities walk away from coffee bean growing in increasing numbers.
Today is the first day of UK Coffee Week 2018! Thousands of coffee shops are celebrating coffee and raising money for @projectwaterfall to bring clean water to coffee growing communities in Ethiopia! Let us know how you’re celebrating and use the hashtag #ukcoffeeweek! pic.twitter.com/a3BLPbnC0T

Coffee shops can help raise money for these causes by doing almost anything! It could be as simple as donating 5p of every coffee sold or something a little more spectacular to encourage people to donate.
To register costs £25 per coffee shop, which covers any printed marketing material sent out by the UK Coffee Week team and then gives you access to the support team should you need their expert help at any point.
Those worried about this fee needn’t. 100% of all the funds raised through UK Coffee Week are funnelled directly into the Project Waterfall project.
If you’d like to see who has already got signed up and who are getting involved, then the guys behind this celebratory event have created a page that lists any coffee shops currently signed up to take part!
Just pop in your postcode to see where the nearest shop is, then get down there to get directly involved!
