Berg Wu crowned 2016 World Barista Champion

Taiwan’s Berg Wu was crowned the 2016 World Barista Champion at the World of Coffee Show in Dublin, emerging victorious ahead of 61 competitors over four days in the Irish capital.

Wu received a Nuova Simonelli Musica espresso machine, his choice of Mahlkonig EK43 or K30 Bario AIR grinder, a nine day tip to Brazil with Ally Coffee, a trip to Swiss Water’s decaffeination plant in Vancouver, Canada, a $500 gift voucher from Espresso Supply and a cover story in Barista Magazine.

The final group to take to the European stage in France this summer, but no less important, Portugal, Iceland, Austria and Hungary will be vying for a place in the latter stages of the tournament much like any of the other teams.

But one of the smaller nations within this group consumes 9kg of coffee per person each year! That means every person drinks at least 2 cups per person, per day! Which to be fair doesn’t sound too much…
