Orang Utan Friendly Coffee: A truly ethical coffee
Sustainability is a huge issue with global coffee farming.
With some of the finest coffees in the world coming from some of the most remote locations on the planet, it is important to ensure that the farmers are using ethical methods to not only grow their beans, but ensure their immediate environment is not damaged affecting their future crop propositions.
For many farmers, wildlife is not usually an issue when considering how and where to grow their coffee.
Large portions of the Sumatran rainforest have been cleared for intensive farming purposes, leaving the Sumatran Orangutan to become critically endangered.
We are therefore incredibly proud to offer Orang Utan Friendly Coffee, helping not only the endangered primate, but the farmers that live side-by-side with the majestic animal.
The Orang Utan Coffee project, has been setup to help farmers and the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Project, by educating the local farmers about the effect of intensive farming methods and also offering a premium price for every kilogram of coffee they produce via ecological methods.
Not only this, but for every bag sold, the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Project receives a donation to help fund their animal protection efforts in the region.
We can’t think of a better way to support not only the region, but the beautiful creatures who inhabit the largest Arabica growing area in Southeast Asia.
Grown on the Bersih Plantation in the Gayo Highlands region of the nation, this single origin coffee provides a balanced, medium bodied taste which benefits from the stable, humid micro-climate provided by the adjacent rainforests.
The rainforest protects, not only the animals, but the fertile volcanic soils from erosion and is the basis for a healthy coffee plantation. The result is the growth of a deliciously sweet tasting coffee with notes of raisin and sugar cane, that is one of the best we have ever offered.
