How does coffee affect your chances of skin cancer?
It doesn’t seem like a likely coupling, does it?
But there has been a lot of research into the effects of drinking coffee recently and some rather surprising discoveries have been made.
One of these findings, which has been reported on in the press recently, is the correlation between drinking coffee and contracting skin cancer.
Do you drink coffee?
Are you interested in finding out the answer to this question?
In truth, the issue is really rather related to caffeine than being limited to coffee alone.
A study has been published this month in Cancer Research and they have noted some interesting points.
Your chances of developing the most common type of cancer of the skin is lowered, if you have an intake of caffeine, it would appear.
That’s also good news for those who consume some tea, chocolate and cola.
What were the statistics?
The research project showed that women who had over 3 cups of coffee (caffeinated of course), had a 21% less chance of developing skin cancer, compared with those who consumed under a cup per month.
The corresponding figure for men was 10%.
One of the study’s co-authors has been quoted as suggesting that caffeine inhibits tumour progression.
Of course, there needs to be further investigation into these findings, to work out the relationships between the disease and the substance, but the findings in the first instance are really rather encouraging.
