Espresso spread: Probably the best thing you can now put on bread
Within weeks of hearing about a Japanese firm releasing a coffee butter-based coffee spread, we have a step up in the caffeine-spread stakes. This time in the form of Espresso Spread.
Many of us in the UK tend to choose to forgo breakfast in favour of a hot drink, so the combination of a caffeine fix with a light breakfast bite might just be up a lot of people’s street.
Combining coffee and food isn’t exactly a first, but being able to spread espresso onto your toasted bagel could be our next fixation.
Flat Brew, the creators of the spread, have achieved the promised land of spreadable coffee by refining dark-roasted Arabica coffee beans, butter, sugar and cream to deliver a deliciously indulgent breakfast treat.
Resembling the smooth appearance of peanut butter and Nutella, this is much darker product – similar in colour to Marmite – and tastes more like a bitter but sweet Nutella rather than a sharp espresso.

The copious amounts of sugar, cream and butter bump a small 20 gram serving up to a whopping 91 calories. For anyone looking for a diet-enhancing breakfast spread, then, unfortunately, Espresso Spread is not going to be a good option.
Of course, as part of a balanced diet that shouldn’t be a problem, and for those not put off by this calorie-laden spread then this could be a great way to boost your morning energy levels!
Available exclusively at Selfridges, and priced at £5.99. For those willing to pay £6 for a spreadable espresso, then this is going to be an amazing revelation.
Now pass us that blender, we’re going to have a go at making our own blend…
