Coffee and feeling good
Let’s face it that’s the main reason we drink coffee, right?
Because of the delicious taste, the aroma, the little ‘kick’ that it gives us.
However, there are other ways to enjoy your cup of coffee, making you feel as if you’re doing the right thing as well.
Here are a few ideas:
First, as reported in This is South Wales, you can help by recycling your coffee packaging to help charity.
In the South Wales community, if you take the unwanted coffee packaging to the Waunarlwydd Community Centre, it can be used as part of a scheme to raise money for a local primary school.
The wasted packaging such as bags, sachets and jar lids – can all be used to make new plastic products.
Secondly, why not try Fairtrade coffee?
It’s easy to detect a coffee which takes part in the scheme as there is the logo on the packaging.
This means that the deal struck with the farmer (usually in a developing country) is on terms which fall with these ‘fair trade’ parameters.
The aim is for farmers to get a good deal and to help to support community projects for them too.
Thirdly, go green and use your coffee grounds to make mulch to feed your plants.
Some coffee shops will give away their discarded grounds freely to budding green-fingered customers, or you can use your own.
This is a tried and tested way of adding some nutrients to the plant’s soil.
