Clear coffee: Never worry about staining your teeth
A brand new bottled coffee (yes we wholeheartedly disagree with ‘bottled coffee’) has hit the market and it’s (almost) as clear as water!
Obviously taking aims at that portion of coffee drinkers that was to a) take their coffee with them and b) like their coffee cold; this Slovakian import has been taking social media by storm in the last few weeks.
But we wonder…is it actually any good?
Clear Coffee is the world’s first colourless coffee drink, which we can’t actually refute as we’ve never seen or heard of anything like it before, although we have had a few coffees before with we would consider ‘colourless’…
Aiming to be a refresher rather than a standard caffeine powered energy-booster, the beverage has been made from what the company are calling ‘high-quality Arabica’ and pure water. Just how ‘quality’ the Arabica is, we can’t really tell without having a taste.
The company behind the drink – CLR CFF – developed the drink because they were heavy coffee drinkers who were concerned about staining their teeth.
Co-founder David Nagy told the Evening Standard: “We are heavy coffee drinkers.
“Like many other people we struggled with the teeth stains caused by it.
“There was nothing on the market that would suit our needs so we decided to create our own recipe.”
Now we would call ourselves ‘heavy coffee drinkers’, but have been assured by our dentists that as long as our brushing and flossing routines are consistent, then keeping our teeth nice, white and healthy should be a given.
Although we’re trying not to be sceptical, as we understand that revealing how you make see-through coffee is, of course, the reason the company exists, we can’t help but feel like these ‘secret methods’ could be a concern.
Completely clear, it does retain a slight yellow tint, with each 200ml serving containing no additives, sugar and only 4 calories. It’s quite amazing in some respects.
Priced at £5.99+postage for 2 x 200ml bottles, it’s not the cheapest, but similar in cost to a flat white at your local coffee shop. But the waiting period is currently at 3-4 weeks due to the intense demand.
We’re offended, intrigued and craving a taste all at the same time.
